DHEA

Timed Released Caplets

GENERAL HEALTH BENEFITS
No animal testing. No animal products.

Each oral micronized 25 mg caplet contains 99.9% pure DHEA from the Barbasco Yam (member of the wild yam family), formulated with 1% cellulose (allows for timed released).

SUGGESTIONS FOR USE

DHEA TIMED RELEASED CAPLETS are oral micronized, and easily digested. Recommended dosage is one caplet per day upon rising as its energy enhancing qualities may interfere with sleep if taken late in the day. (For those with digestive problems, please ask about Dixie Health's DHEA Cremegel).

PLEASE NOTE: Men and women with conditions that may aggravate by increased hormonal stimulation should avoid DHEA and all other hormonal therapies. Everyone involved in any kind of supplemental hormone replacement should monitor their biomarkers at least once a year.

DHEA MAY WELL BE THE MOST VALUABLE ADDITION TO THE SUPPLEMENT INDUSTRY EVER - not only because of its scientific validation, but also because of it's everyday ability to work for people. Over 4,000 published scientific studies on the effects of DHEA on humans and animals establish that DHEA can potentially help:

DHEA a steroid hormone is produced in great amounts by the adrenal glands, with smaller amounts also produced by the ovaries and testes. DHEA production rises in puberty and peaks in the mid-twenties when men produce approximately 25-30 mg a day, and women produce 20-25 mg a day. DHEA production declines steadily thereafter, more quickly in individuals with medical disease conditions when compared with "healthy" individuals of the same age. Even 'healthy" men and women, however, DHEA is barely detectable by their sixties and seventies. DHEA is therefore considered a key biomarker of physiological age and resistance to disease. When DHEA blood levels are restored to those of twenty-five years olds, studies show that the body becomes vibrant, healthy, and more able to effectively combat disease.

DISEASE PREVENTION

In one 22 year study of 5,000 apparently healthy women, it was discovered that 100% of the women who developed and died of breast cancer had DHEA blood levels of less than 10% expected for that age group. Conversely, 100% of the women with higher than average levels of DHEA remained free of any kind of cancer. Dr. William Regelson has also demonstrated that people with HIV virus do not suffered from full blown AIDS until their adrenal output of DHEA drops. In his study he showed that the men with low levels of DHJEA had twice the risk of full blown AIDS compared to men with normal levels. John Nestler, an endocrinologist at the Medical College of Virginia says, "DHEA is one of the most abundant hormones in humans so it stands to reason that it has some biological effects on us. If i had to say which of those effects were the strongest, I would have to say protection against heart disease and boosting the immune function".

CARDIOVASCULAR FUNCTION

The cardiovascular value of DHEA  he was referring to was reported in The New England Journal of Medicine in 1986 (315,1519-24) by Dr. Elizabeth Barrett-Comer of UC San Diego. Two hundred men, aged 50-79, were tracked for 12 years. Men whose initial DHEA levels were higher than 140mcg. were less than half ad ;likely to have died of a heart disease by the end of the study, even when factors such as smoking and high cholesterol levels were considered. A 100 microgram per decaliter increase in DHEA concentration corresponded with a 48% reduction in mortality due to cardiovascular disease, and a 36% reduction in mortality for any reason. The natural level of DHEA was measured, and those individuals with higher DHEA levels lived longer and had a much lower risk of heart disease."

FAT REDUCTION/MUSCLE GAIN

Another benefit of DHEA is it's ability to burn fat and to keep it off by converting fat to muscle. It seems to aid the body's ability to produce lean muscle tissue in a very short period of time. In fact during a 29 day study at the Medical College of Virginia, doctors gave daily doses of DHEA to "healthy" men and women in their mid-twenties. Although none were obese, all but one had excess body fat. Diet and lifestyle were not altered but at the end test participants lost an average of 31% of their body fat. Weight lifters and body builders seem especially interested in the results. PLEASE NOTE Again, peak DHEA production levels occur in the mid-twenties, so for those who are under 30, and considering DHEA supplementation for fat reduction and or muscle gain, consult with a medical health professional FIRST, before beginning any DHEA supplementation program.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Please make note that too much DHEA or nay hormonal supplementation could suppress the body's natural ability to synthesize DHEA and other hormones. This should especially be considered by younger, healthy people whose adrenal output is still strong. For them it might be wise to take DHEA no more than every other day, alternating it with a precursor product, such as one of the Dixie Health PROGESTERONE (TM) wild yam creams, which bypass both the GI tract and first liver pass, or one of the TESTRON (TM) caplet products which also contain yam. For any healthy person, Dixie Health does not recommend more than 25 mg DHEA per day. For all severely ill people and those with moderately compromised health, Dixie Health strongly suggests working with a medical professional to determine dosage and length of therapy. Men and women with conditions that may be aggravated by increased hormonal stimulation should avoid DHEA and all other hormonal therapies. Everyone involved in any kind of supplemental hormone replacement should monitor their biomarkers at least once a year.

Scientifically referred to as Dioscorea, the Wild Yam grows mainly in China, Japan, and Central America. Dioscorea has been shown to improve overall health, boost the immune system, increase energy, and balance the hormonal system. While DHEA is made from the yam, technically it is semi-synthetic like USP progesterone. On the other hand, dioscorea is not a hormone, but an herb. It acts instead as "food" for hormone production and when supplemented, can affect the production and balance of all bodily hormones.
