NATURALS SUNSCREEN PROTECTION - Don’t Rub It In!
Dab or lay sunscreens on your skin,
never rub them in. They belong on the surface layers, not deep
inside the skin. By rubbing on sunscreens you create friction which brings
heat to the area that you are rubbing. This opens the skin’s pores allowing
the sunscreen to enter the skin. You then lose the effectiveness of your
sunscreen. (An SPF 15 will then only give you the protection of an SPF
4.)
-
SPF
15: For
sun sensitive areas, anywhere the bone is close to the skin and areas where
you have had little previous sun exposure. Use an SPF that is appropriate
for your skin type (see chart below). Reapply frequently and consistently.
-
SPF
8: For
sun sensitive areas, anywhere the bone is close to the skin and
where you already have a good base tan. Use an SPF that is appropriate
for your skin type (see chart below). Reapply frequently and consistently
to promote a safe rate of tanning.
-
SPF
4: For
parts of the body other than the bony areas, which have more flesh and
thicker skin cover. Works well if you have a hardy skin type, naturally
dark or olive skin. Use an SPF that is appropriate for your skin type (see
chart below). Reapply frequently and consistently.
-
Pure
Aloe/Tea Tree Gel Repair: For
all parts of the body, especially after any significant sun exposure.
Will repair your skin if you mistakenly get burnt, after being in the sun,
once you’ve had a warm shower. Apply to concerned areas and
let soak in for about 15 minutes. Then apply Rosehip/Aloe Rehydrator. Use
both products together until the burnt areas are fully healed. Pure Aloe/Tea
Tree has also proven very effective on a daily basis, when used on cuts,
scratches, rashes, excema, acne and other skin disorders.
-
Rosehip/Aloe
Rehydrator: Rehydrates your skin and deepens
your tan allowing you to keep your tan longer. Apply all
over your body and facial areas (and burnt areas after using Pure Aloe/Tea
Tree Gel Repair). Apply several times daily, even if you’re no longer getting
any sun exposure. Your tan will persist deeper, darker and longer than
ever before. Continued use, even without a tan, will keep your skin soft,
moist, smooth and very supple.
SKIN
TYPES: HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT PRODUCTS
People are unique, and everyone has
different skin types. Consequently, your skin may respond to the sun differently
from someone else’s, and your burn protection and tan promotion requirements
will differ accordingly. The following chart will help you determine which
products are best suited to your individual needs.

ULTRAVIOLET
RADIATION FACTS
ULTRAVIOLET
C (UVC)
The shortest (200 - 290 NM), but most
powerful rays. Thought to be completely filtered out by the earth’s protective
layer of ozone.
ULTRAVIOLET
B (UVB)
Short to mid-length rays (290 - 320
NM), thought to be primarily responsible for both suntan and sunburn. Deliver
all their energy to the outer layer of skin (epidermis). They stimulate
melanocytes, to produce new melanin, a brown pigmentation that produces
the skin’s tanning effect. This tanning process is the skin’s natural protection
against the sun’s UVB rays. Thought to be most damaging to the skin in
terms of producing painful burns and contributing to the development of
skin cancer. UVB RAYS DIFFER IN INTENSITY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
ULTRAVIOLET
A (UVA)
Longer, less forceful rays, but can
penetrate through the epidermis and deeply into the thick middle layer
of skin (dermis). Here they can cause long term detrimental effects and
the skin has no natural biological defenses against them. Breaks down skin
and causes changes in blood vessels resulting in premature aging of the
skin. Can add to the harmful effects of UVB rays. Believed to be the cause
of photosensitive reactions when taking some drugs. UVA RAYS DO NOT DIFFER
IN INTENSITY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
SUN
EXPOSURE - FAST FACTS
-
Tanning is the skin’s natural defense
from UV light injury. The skin attempts to shade itself from further damage
with a screen of dark melanin cells. Exposure to sunlight increases melanin
production, causing the skin to tan.
-
On a cloudy day, 80% of the ultraviolet
light passes through the clouds.
-
The sun’s reflective powers are great
- 17% on sand - 80% on snow.
-
UVB doesn’t penetrate the epidermis, but
it’s thought it is primarily responsible for burning and tanning.
-
UVB intensity differs depending on weather,
time of day, country, etc.
-
SPF numbers only pertain to a product’s
screening ability of UVB.
-
UVA can penetrate the epidermis and travel
deeply into the dermis, and is thought to be primarily responsible for
premature aging of the skin (wrinkling).
-
The skin has no natural defenses against
UVA, and its intensity is consistent all year round, no matter the weather,
time of day, etc.
-
Queensland University (Australia) has
proven that some chemicals, in sunscreens, can and do penetrate the skin.
-
The Federal Drug Administration (U.S.A.)
has stated they don’t yet know the long term effects of chemicals in sunscreens.
-
Most skin cancers are preventable - if
you protect yourself properly.
